Once upon a time a magnificent carob tree lived in this garden. One day the tree caught a disease and died. The children and the birds were very upset. The owner decided to fill the void with a swimming pool. We were appointed to write a happy ending…

We envisioned the swimming pool as seamlessly integrating into the garden, much like the carob tree that once stood in its place. To achieve this harmony, the design extended beyond the pool itself, encompassing the surrounding landscape to create a cohesive connection between the pool, the existing house, and the garden.

On the north side, a long bench serves as a smooth continuation of the steps leading from the porch, while also functioning as a safety barrier to protect young children from inadvertently entering the pool area. A new planter extends the west façade of the building into the garden, enhancing circulation while framing the pool’s platform.

A low retaining wall along the site’s western boundary accommodates the strategic planting of trees and shrubs to ensure privacy from neighboring properties. These new trees not only restore a sense of greenery but also pay homage to the carob tree, whose memory is preserved in a ceramic mosaic at the bottom of the pool, marking the exact spot where it once stood.
